Youth participation in decision-making spaces
The key to realising youth-centric development is to include young people in decision-making about interventions that involve them - For the youth, by the youth, of the youth.
Youth participation in decision-making spaces
The key to realising youth-centric development is to include young people in decision-making about interventions that involve them - For the youth, by the youth, of the youth.
Pravah, in collaboration with Dasra, has developed a guidebook to set up youth advisory boards in organisations.
To include young people in decision-making it is important to:
1. Equip young people with the leadership skills to represent other
youth and input into strategic decisions with confidence
2. Equip senior leaders in organisations with the values and mindset to work with young people and bridge the intergenerational gap that exists through existing power structures
We have partnered with UNICEF YuWaah! to capacitate the members of their Young People's Action Team (YPAT), Dasra's 10to19 Collaborative, Youth Ke Bol - Young People Advancing Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights, Youth Advisory Panel (YAP) for Plan India.
We believe that to walk the talk on youth leadership, we the civil society need to actively work towards making systemic adaptations within organisations, and their mindsets.
Thus our key focus areas are:
1. Setting up Youth Advisory Boards
2. Equipping organisations to adapt youth-centrality
3. Equipping youth advisors with core competencies
4. Raising awareness and shifting the narrative on youth participation
